Dogs can become violent at times and bite you, irrespective of the situation. The person can be their owner or just a passerby; a triggered dog can bite a person that comes in their way.

How to take care of the wound caused by a dog bite?

Here are the steps to take care of the wounds of a person bitten by a dog:

  • Apply direct pressure on the wound with a clean and dry cloth if the wound is bleeding. 
  • Once the bleeding stops, wash the wound with mild soap and warm water. Rinse the bite 3 to 5 times to wash away any harmful bacteria present. 
  • To reduce the risk of infection, apply an antibacterial ointment on the wound. 
  • Take a dry sterile bandage and put it on the wound. 
  • Call the doctor right away if the dot bite is on places like the neck, head, fingers, feet, etc. 

When to consult a doctor?

If there are any deeper wounds, the victim may need stitches and should be rushed immediately to the hospital. 

However, for small as well as big wounds, the victim must take a tetanus shot if not taken in the last 5 years. You will also be prescribed antibiotics. 

Apart from that, if there is a spread of infection in the affected area, then the antibiotics will be given through the IV(vein). Plus, if the dog bite is severe, the victim will have to undergo surgery.
